Off to a Good Start

Two days in, and 2012 is already off to a great start.

After a half day of work on Friday, I spent some time shopping and enjoying a just-me lunch at the quirky Infusion Tea in College Park.

Their Very Veggie panini was much more $8-worthy than the Nature’s Table attempt. I don’t know what they did to their eggplant, but I just couldn’t get enough of the pesto-ey, salty goodness.

Infusion also dished up a bean, carrot and cranberry salad that was much better than I imagined it would be:

On New Years, I headed down to spend the day with the coach and his family. Since small towns are perfect for party animals, we met up at Applebee’s for a total rager before taking the party back to the house. Even though we kept things tame, we weren’t in bed until nearly 2, making a lazy Sunday morning absolutely necessary!

Despite the lazy morning, I was able to sneak in an afternoon workout. I took advantage of the gorgeous weather with a mini brick workout: 3 miles outside on my bike, then straight to the gym for 1.5 on the treadmill and plenty of shoulder exercises. I’m feelin’ pretty swole this morning Winking smile

Breakfast to fuel for a productive day off: 2 scrambled eggs with red pepper hummus and sundried tomatoes, plus marinara-topped veggies.

LOTS of organization on the horizon!

What did you do for your New Years?

A Day in the Life of a Klutz

There’s a reason my mother named me Faith instead of Grace…

7 AM – Knock phone out of bed trying to hit snooze on the alarm. Jam arm between bed and wall trying to fish out said phone.

7:45 AM – Spill cereal all over the floor trying to assemble breakfast.

At least Hoover Haley enjoys the 365 almond clusters as much as I do. Dog > vacuum.

10 AM, 11:30 AM, 2 PM, etc. – Smash various body parts into desk at work. Funny bone = not so funny. ‘Nuff said.

Noon – Nearly fall off heels and twist ankle while idling shifting weight from one leg to the other as lunch heats up in the microwave.

Who knew quinoa could be so dangerous?

009

Near-death experience aside, this lunch was one of my favorites in quite some time! I’d seasoned a bowl of quinoa and sautéed red peppers with chili powder and lime juice, then plopped a hefty helping of guacamole on top. I’’ll definitely be re-making this dish again!

3 PM – Spill coffee all over desk for what has to be the sixth time this month. Giggle at intra-office emails from coworkers suggesting a sippy cup.

5:15 PM – Take a nasty spill while riding bicycle home from work. Gash open knee and hand, sit whimpering on side of road for five minutes before collecting yourself and venturing home.

015

7:00 PM – Burn top of hand pulling cauliflower fritters out of oven.

011

Just another scar to add to the collection…

7:01 PM – Spit out scalding hot cauliflower fritter bite because it is a) scalding hot and b) jack nasty.

9 PM – Take dog out to do her nighttime business, bend down to push the doorstop into place, bash head on metal bar when standing up.

9:10 PM – Quarantine self to bed for your own safety and protection. Spend the rest of the night joking with your boyfriend about how else you could maim yourself. Laugh nervously at suggestions and pray that your bedframe doesn’t really collapse and that your roof doesn’t cave in.

Question of the Morning:

Are you naturally clumsy, or are you less prone to klutzy injuries?

This is What Being Stubborn Gets You

Breakfast at 5:45 AM:

soy yogurt with fruit

My semi-conscious brain vaguely recognizes this as fruit salad, vanilla soy yogurt and chia seeds:

A coworker jokingly mentioned that I wouldn’t be able to crank out a 20 mile ride this morning before hitting the office.

“Oh, I’ll show him,” I thought…

I failed to remember one crucial thing…

The sun is smart. The sun is still asleep at 5:45 AM. The sun does not get out of bed until closer to 7, when I usually am crawling to life.

I wasn’t able to fall back to sleep, so I addressed a few chores around the house and got some of my things together for the weekend, then pumped out some body weight exercises in my living room. By that time, I was ready for a second breakfast, so a simple banana, cocoa and spinach smoothie was whipped up and practically inhaled.

Looks like you win, J! Well played, my friend, well played.

What’s the last thing you got yourself into by being stubborn?
